SONGSEEDS analysis - VERSE

The verse of the song uses a repeating 5 chord progression in the key of G major - the chords used have been highlighted in the next table:-

Verse chord sequence

The previous table shows the chords used for the verse in numerical order - the actual chord order is highlighted in the table that follows:-

Progression 6

An enlarged portion of the previous table is shown below for clarity:-

Progression 6 enlarged

The Am chord has been enhanced by the use of the addition of the eleventh note of the A natural minor scale - which produces an Amadd11 chord. Mr Buckland achieves this chord by detuning his first string from E to D and then playing a standard 5Am3 open chord shape. If you don't want to bother with retuning just remove your second finger from the standard Am open chord shape to introduce the open D string - the net effects are very similar sounding.

Song Seeds analysis - CHORUS

The chorus chord sequence uses a repeating 2 chord progression in the key of D major

Progression 9

An enlarged portion of the previous table is shown below for clarity:-

Progression 9 enlarged

Again an add11 embellishment has been amployed on the A major chord - via the detuned first string ( i.e. a D natural note has been added to the major triad). As explained previously the same effect can be achieved by removing the first finger from a standard A major open chord shape to introduce the open D string.
