6 string guitar (EADGBE - standard tuning)
F major-dominant seventh arpeggio : General

Last weeks BLOGoZON looked at the F bebop dominant scale for 6-string guitar in standard tuning, this week we take a look at its underlying arpeggio the F major-dominant seventh.

The EDCAG octaves sequence is shown for F natural in the diagram that follows:-

The diagram that follows shows all of the F major-dominant seventh notes plotted over the 6-string guitar's fretboard (EADGBE tuning) in the EDCAG octaves style:-

NOTE :- The F major-dominant seventh is an amalgamation of the F major seventh and F dominant seventh arpeggios; GuitarPro6 diagrams of both follow:-

NOTE:- The GuitarPro6 fingerboard that follows for F dominant seventh shows E's enharmonic equivalent spelling of D (the augmented sixth interval name rather than the minor seventh) used elsewhere on this page.

As always a more long term solution to fretboard navigation is to see scales as INTERVAL shapes rather than note names - as these are universal to all scales, arpeggios and chords rather than specific to one particular root note - with this in mind the intervals for the F major-dominant seventh are detailed below in the EDCAG octaves manner:-

The tables and tabbed panels below detail all five box shapes for the F major-dominant seventh arpeggio in the EDCAG octaves style.

Once the individual box shapes have been assimilated all five shapes should be linked together and played in one continuous exercise (with the first shape - 6E4E1 - being repeated at the 12th fret).

The video shown to the right demonstrates the EDCAG octaves chain-linked sequence for the F major-dominant seventh arpeggio box shapes.
